An Oscar Nominee as the Green Lantern?

Well, that rules out Robert Pattinson...

Ryan Gosling

One way to up your Hollywood profile is to star as a superhero, just ask Robert Downey Jr. and Christian Bale. Of course, it has to be in a good superhero movie, just ask Ioan Gruffudd. So, who is apparently eyeing a role as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in Green Lantern? Why none other than Ryan Gosling according to LatinoReview.

LR is reporting the news from what they refer to as a “trusted source within the Warner Bros” and based on their history with being the first to name Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight and Brandon Routh as Superman in Superman Returns I am not going to doubt them.

I doubt I need to remind the majority of you who Ryan Gosling is, but just in case he starred in the sappy romantic drama The Notebook with current girlfriend Rachel McAdams (Limited Edition DVD on the way), the crappy thriller Stay, was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Half Nelson and starred opposite Anthony Hopkins in another crappy thriller called Fracture. Oh, he also was replaced by Mark Wahlberg in Peter Jackson’s upcoming Lovely Bones adaptation and fell in love with a blow-up doll in Lars and the Real Girl.

I believe Gosling has talent, but I am yet to truly enjoy any of his films. I know nothing about the Green Lantern, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he nailed it and it’s nice to see studios are thinking outside the box and attempting to hire actors for their upcoming superhero flicks as opposed to faces.

It was recently reported by First Showing that producer Donald DeLine was “gearing up to start shooting [Green Lantern in] early spring [2009]” with Greg Berlanti (”Everwood”) directing with an eye for a 2010 release.

Ryan Gosling is good in just about everything he does in my opinion! I love Stay. That movie effects me in ways that only very few can. If you want to see Ryan Gosling in his finest you have to see the United States of Leland and the Believer! Those two and Stay are my Gosling Top 3.

This would definitely be an awesome casting decision. I really liked Half Nelson, Lars and th Real Girl, and The Notebook(yes, a straight guy can really like that movie)…

As for Stay and Fracture…yikes. But to each his own.
