I really hope "The Dark Knight" doesn't win any major oscar, not that the film was bad, but because people keep going on and on and on about it and I'm just sick and tried of people talking about it. I wish it would just go away….

now that makes sense.
what i think the academy doesn't realize is, depending on who really does get a nod for the Best Actor/Actress, & also depending on how warmly audiences embrace the performances (with the exception of sean penn for milk), i'm pretty sure most of the numbers for the broadcast will be going for the Supporting Actor race.
so unless people will get as shocked but amazed by other contenders, heath ledger will be the reason for big audience.
altho if the academy could care less, then whatever. but i think we'll be looking at the biggest numbers watching since the 2003 oscars.

Yeah, I haven't even gotten into Supporting Actor really, but I have Ledger and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) as my two buzz-worthy additions so far on the Contenders page right here. Other than those two you have Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) and perhaps Liev Schrieber (Defiance) so far, but the Schrieber call is just based on a little bit of buzz.
