Oscar and Golden Globe Winners Join 'Piranha 3-D'
A tip of the hat to 'Jaws' appears to be in order

When Elisabeth Shue was cast in Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3-D it meant the marketing could boast an Oscar-nominee was part of the cast. Now, Nuke the Fridge has announced Oscar-winner Richard Dreyfuss has joined the cast along with New York Post's Page Six report saying Golden Globe winner Ving Rhames is also aboard, which means this is beginning to look like a star-studded event.
Piranha 3-D is set for a March 19, 2010 release and is to be directed by Hills Have Eyes remake helmer Alexandre Aja. The film is a remake of Joe Dante's 1978 original in which a tremor causes Arizona's Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas.
Of course, the addition of Richard Dreyfuss adds something of a killer fish homage as Dreyfuss played Matt Hooper in the 1975 classic, Jaws. NuketheFridge reports the Dreyfuss character will even be drinking Amity brand beer and may be the first character killed off in the new movie (highlight black for spoiler).
The fourth confirmed member of the cast is Adam Scott (The Aviator).
Filming begins in Arizona this month.
