One Man Takes Theater Shushing to the Next Level

Great, now the movies will need metal detectors

Wow, I hate people who talk in movies as much as the next person, but this story out of Philadelphia tells of a man who took things way too far.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting a South Philadelphia man enraged because a father and son were talking during a Christmas showing of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button took care of the situation when he pulled a .380-caliber gun and shot the father, police said.

James Joseph Cialella Jr., 29, (pictured) was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons violations. There is no word regarding the status of the man that was shot, but the article reports the story of how it went down as follows:

Police were called to the Riverview Theatre in the 1400 block of Columbus Boulevard about 9:30 p.m. where the gunshot victim, a Philadelphia man who was not identified, told police a man sitting near him told his family to be quiet and threw popcorn at his son.

After exchanging words, Vanore said Cialella allegedly got out of his seat to confront the family when the father got up to protect them. That's when the victim was shot once in the left arm, sending others in the theatre running to safety.

Cialella then sat down to watch the movie. Police arrived a short time later and arrested Cialella and confiscated his weapon, Vanore said.

Recently I have come to be more outgoing in telling people to be quiet during films, but this is just scary. The worst thing I have done is walked up about five rows to tell a couple of girls to be quiet during my screening of Defiance. I can only hope the man that was shot it alright.

Yes, it is totally excessive and unnecessary to shoot someone for talking in a movie, however, I bet the guy who got shot will think twice before he opens up his mouth in a movie theater.

That's what he gets for talking during a movie. There were a bunch of pesky teenagers talking all the way through "The Spirit" earlier tonight. They're lucky I wasn't armed.

I'm joking of course.
Or am I?

BTW, the movie sucked.

This is a new horror franchise.
Kids, don't talk in a theatre or else James Joseph Cialella Jr will get your parents.

I wonder which is more rude: talking/texting during a movie or using a firearm.

this country needs stricter gun laws, that's all I can. Far too many lunatics carry guns.

Wow, the worst I've ever done is grab someone's phone, take out the battery, and throw it under the seats, and I thought I was nuts. I hope the victim and his family are okay, but… well, he must have had some bad karma built up on top of just talking in a movie.

I hate it when people talk during a movie. I tell them to shut up without any regrets. However, shooting someone for talking is psycho. Just psycho.

woooooooooooooooooooooooow. I just saw that on the news, I thought it was hilarious. I mean the sound of it was hilarious, but a man being hurt for something like that wasn't.

Loudly mentioning this news story when the people behind you won't shut up as the movie's about to begin is quite effective, I discovered today…

The story could just as easy play out in reverse. No matter which shoes you fill, best to tell the management. Let the underpaid usher get shot!
