I am a fan of MJ and I don't think too much can ever be said or written about him. He was and is an icon. It is indeed tragic what happened to him. Something that was avoidable.

I think this is the most honest and heartfelt article I've read on Michael. Thanks for that.

I too, grew up listening to him. I can't think of my childhood without thinking of his music. What he is I do not know and I'm not sure I want to know, however, like any genius, he has his eccentricities and is driven by his own personal demons. I'll rather hold on to that music as for the rest of him, we may never get to the real truth.

I must say though, I've been avoiding the media coverage of his death. Today's media makes me gag at the glee they always show in tearing down the living with no thought for the truth yet very keen to pay tributes to the dead with nauseating insincerity. I guess I do want him to get the attention because he's an icon that left an indelible mark in music yet I wish they'll all shut their crap and disappear.

Good article...thanx for posting "Give in to Me" video, my favorite MJ song. And I had completely forgotten about "Liberian Girl"...haven't seen that one in years! As with a lot of other fans, I am devestated by his passing. There will be no other like Michael Jackson!

Michael broke racial barriers and brought joy to people worldwide. I'm not impressed with attention on celebrity idols dying of natural causes when people are dying in Iran and all over the world. However, I hope in death Michael's family will do one last deed at his funeral to attempt to bring peace and democracy to Iran. His music crosses most all religions and cultures.

MJ's death and funeral can be larger than life if it would promote some of what his songs promoted, such as Man in the Mirror and Heal the World, and direct this toward places like Iran.

Iran and MJ's "They don't really care about us:" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtKshycrCrs

"No one wants to be defeated." MJ's "Beat it," Amadinajad! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvOx4avw8WY

Also, his summer concert plans could be showcased with the dancers. The Jackson 5 and friends could also showcase a celebration of his life.

Excellent article about a real pop icon, Brad. I also think you hit the perfect balance on the highs and lows of Michael's topsy-turvy life. I was a bit older than you the first time I heard Thriller: I am actually Michael's age (wow that just hit me!), and my husband and I were on our honeymoon in Cancun when we saw, heard, and danced to the video at the disco for the first time. I'll never forget it. I love Human Nature as well, and also most of the Off the Wall album. His musical legacy will live forever. Right up there with Sinatra, Elvis and The Beatles.

He surely was a very bizarre character, but still an icon. He deserves a place alongside Elvis or Marlon Brando, certainly.
I'm not shocked with his death (I never thought he would've made to 50 anyway), but I feel sorry for him... He will always be remembered as a great entertainer, no doubt about that!

Such a good article about Michael Jackson. How can we deny having be influenced and attached to his music. All the tabloids cannot change the way we think about him: one of the best performers ever if not the best, whose name has become well-known in every part of the world. I thought I could not cry when I heard the news, but as I was watching all his music videos, his live performances, how happy he was when being on the stage, to see all his fans cheering and shouting his name, tears naturally fell on my cheeks...(sorry if my english is unreadable)

Yo michael jackson was my idol. I did a report about him 2 years ago. I even have a dvd about him called number ones. When I did the report about him, I thought it would be funny, so I did it as a joke. But when I started learning about him, I started to like him(not in a gay way). He lived a very crappy life. I was like the only one that pretty much liked him. My cousin and I liked him too. But now, hes gone. I almost cried when I heard about it. I didnt cuz I didnt know him. Nobody will ever tell michael jackson jokes ever again. That Bruno scene about mj might get edited off. he south park wont be as funny as it was. He is in a better place now.

The very best article on MJ's death I've read so far - Finally someone who nails just the perfect amount of each angle that event could be seen from. And I also give you infinite tons of kudos for mentioning "Human Nature" and "Liberian Girl" (which I'm currently listening to), the most overlooked MJ's gems in my music book.

Strange, I find that I actually feel better now that I know someone in the world sees the whole phenomenon exactly like I do. Thank you so much, you made my day.

And I also give you infinite tons of kudos for mentioning "Human Nature" and "Liberian Girl" (which I'm currently listening to), the most overlooked MJ's gems in my music book.
