Iron Man
| Obviously the release of the week is Paramount’s Iron Man, which hits DVD, 2-Disc DVD and Blu-ray today. It seems like so long ago that I reviewed the Blu-ray version but I keep to my high marks and I actually found the film more enjoyable at home and was able to find the second half slightly more entertaining as is usually the case when I find something relatively dumb in theaters, dumb is just easier to swallow at home and the climax of Iron Man, come on, let’s face it, is pretty dumb. The Blu-ray comes with a decent handful of special features, most of which can also be found on the 2-Disc DVD. I will warn you of one thing though, I have heard folks have been having trouble with their Blu-ray review copies so beware of that and check any BD copy you may buy and make sure it is working before you toss out that receipt. | |

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
| The other big release this week has got to be Universal’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall a film I am still eternally shocked has an 85% RottenTomatoes rating. I gave the theatrical release a “C” and I stick to that review. I haven’t yet popped in my Blu-ray review copy, but Sara just reviewed the 2-Disc Collector’s DVD and after being a tolerant fan of the film on its theatrical release has finally seen the light and realizes the film ain’t all that. It is bloated and relies on sight gags such as the ever-so-comical-penis to make people laugh, and more than once. Now that’s just lazy. Russell Brand was pretty damned funny in this flick, but two hours for a couple moments of comedy just aren’t enough for me. | |

My Name is Earl - The Complete Third Season
| Good God I hate this show. I reviewed the first season and I will never watch it again. I recently received an email from a publicist that said something like “if I send you a review copy will you review it?” Sorry, no. I should have been nice and at least replied to the email, but I just sorta forget. Apologies if you are reading this. | |

Universal Blu-ray
If one studio has properly embraced the Blu-ray format it is Universal. This week they are releasing the following five movies on Blu-ray and if you are looking to start a collection I guarantee you will find a film you will like in this collection. After all, shouldn’t everyone own a copy of The Thing?
I have yet to tear into any of these and out of the bunch I would definitely buy The Thing, that is easily one of the greatest horror films of all-time, at least that I have seen and considering all Universal Blu-ray discs come equipped with DTS sound you just cannot go wrong. I know I may sound like a commercial here, but Universal really has figured out that high-definition is not all about picture and sound is a big part of it and they do not skimp in the slightest. |

The Sixth Sense
| Whatcha think? Is The Sixth Sense M. Night Shyamalan’s best flick? Personally I think Unbreakable is his one film that manages to satisfy on repeat viewings while The Sixth Sense may be good for a watch once every five years or so. I know I recently gave it a second watch when I did my M. Nightly Retrospective, but since then I haven’t really had the desire to watch it again. Who knows, maybe in 2013 I will get around to it again. | |
