A couple of really good releases this week

It's a good week this week folks as we have two solid must buys and a definite must rent.
MUST BUYS

Even though I think this film has been hyped up a bit too much I still think American Gangster is a must buy. It's a gangster flick and it is one of the best since the likes of Scarface and The Godfather. However, with the announcement that HD DVD is out the window I am only linking to the DVD version, no sense in adding more insult to injury. BUY IT AT AMAZON

However, where I wouldn't link to the HD DVD version of American Gangster I offer up the Blu-ray version of Michael Clayton as well as links to the DVD version should you not finally decide to go HD. Michael Clayton was one of my favorite movies of 2007. This thing has everything, but most of all it has the dialogue. Well written dialogue gets me just as excited, if not more than a great action sequence and this one fills the bill. BUY IT AT AMAZON

I am adding this to the Must Buy section because it deserves more than being included in The Rest section. Lust, Caution is a film I definitely recommend you rent. Perhaps you will really dig it and want to buy it, perhaps you will hate it. One way or another I recommend you see it, and if you find yourself not liking it just focus in on the score… It is the best of 2007. BUY IT AT AMAZON
THE REST

Rendition is not awful, but unfortunately it also ain't good. It's a movie you should just avoid because you gain nothing by watching it. BUY IT AT AMAZON

I can't tell you a damn thing about this movie other than our review by Sara says… "While all this probably doesn't add up to enough for a purchase, as a rental Margot at the Wedding is an intriguing original viewers looking for something interesting, challenging and different should probably say I do to." I could think of a lot of things I would rather do than ever see In the Valley of Elah ever again, and being shot in the head just missed the list. BUY IT AT AMAZON

This thriller starring Shannyn Sossamon never hit theaters. Could it be good? Maybe, for about $5, but I am sure it will cost you more than that to… BUY IT AT AMAZON

Snipes, Statham and Phillippe star in this action packed direct-to-DVD release that I would only watch if it was sent to me for free. BUY IT AT AMAZON
