You have got to buy the remastered Star Trek and check out The Counterfeiters

Star Trek - The Complete Second Season (Remastered)
It’s a light week for DVD releases and that is a good thing since you all need to shell out some extra dollars for the second season of the original series of “Star Trek” as Paramount releases the remastered episodes in all their glory. I am a bit upset that I currently have the HD DVD/DVD edition of the first season and now I have to add the DVD only second season to my collection without any high definition just as I will in the recently announced third season of the remastered set when it hits in November. However, Paramount hasn’t sent me the second season for review yet (and who knows if they will) so I can’t comment on the set itself, but I do know if they don’t send it over I will be buying it myself. Seriously, I love this fucking show.

Rogue (Unrated)
The killer croc flick that Dimension wouldn’t give any kind of real theatrical release is coming to DVD. From the director of Wolf Creek I can only assume this film is a mess or it would have gotten some kind of theatrical presence, but as it stands Dimension basically ignored this one. Tell yah what, if it sucks don’t discount director Greg McLean altogether, give Wolf Creek a shot if you haven’t seen it, it’s a pretty good flick.

Nim’s Island
Eh, what can I really say about an adventure flick starring Abigail Breslin that I have absolutely no desire to see? I know Gerard Butler fanatics will probably be all over it, but for the most part I am not sure if there are many people that even know this film exists. I am sure some out of touch souls will probably toss it in the Best Buy shopping cart without even looking at what it is, but I doubt it will get much play beyond that first viewing.

The Counterfeiters
“Star Trek” is your campy fun title for the week and this is the serious and depressing one. I already reviewed the Blu-ray release and gave it a glowing review, but I still maintain this is a rental instead of a buy. I own Schindler’s List and despite how great that film is I can’t even bring myself to watch it a second time since reviewing it way back in 2004. I am yet to even watch Downfall despite its praise and I can’t imagine ever watching The Counterfeiters again. Once you are familiar with the Holocaust and the travesties of the second World War why would you want to continue to subject yourself to that misery?
