A couple of quality TV titles and TONS of new release dates

Dexter – The Complete Second Season
I already reviewed this second season of Showtime's "Dexter" and offered up quite a bit of praise, but as I say in my review, if you are interested in getting started with this show about a Miami blood splatter specialist doubling as a serial killer I recommend you first check out the first season because this is a show you don't want to jump into in the middle. If you have a Netflix Roku player you can check it out in the Instant Play as I did. Quick, easy and simple. I am not sure if this is a show you will want to buy however. As much as I enjoyed my time watching it, the second season character Lila played by Jaime Murray really hurts any chance of watching it over and over again.

House – The Complete Fourth Season
Here's another TV title I recently reviewed and liked very much. After a two year drought of not watching anything having to do with "House" it was nice to see the fourth season took the show in a different direction as already by the end of the second season the House sarcasm was beginning to wear on me and was proving it wasn't going to be the glue holding the show together without a little something else. Season four introduced several new characters and was an extremely positive turn in a show I do recommend you consider purchasing on a season-by-season basis.

Nixon (Election Year Edition)
I also just reviewed the Blu-ray edition of the Nixon director's cut and while I admit it is a good film with some fantastic performances I have a hard time believing anyone would find this a worthy buy considering the fiml itself is three hours and 33 minutes long. I just can't imagine anyone taking that much time out of their day more than once to watch this film when there are so many other more entertaining 3+ hour films to watch. Definitely give it a watch, especially give it a watch before you decide to buy it.

Street Kings
Argh, don't give this film a watch and don't waste your money buying it or even renting it. Street Kings is an average film and that is being kind. There are a few positives I saw and was able to give it a "C" with my theatrical review, but you could watch a couple episodes of "The Shield" and get a far better corrupt cop story.

Deal
This film was so good MGM saw fit to release it in 51 theaters in which it made a grand total of $61,626. It's a poker film starring Burt Reynolds and a bunch of professional poker players. I wouldn't waste my time watching it, but if you feel the need feel free.

An American Crime
I only know one person that has seen this film and I did not hear positive things from them. It wasn't so much that the film itself is bad as much as its subject matter is entirely undesirable. I have not seen it, but from what I understand Catherine Keener locks Ellen Page up in her basement and tortures her. I don't know how far that torture goes and I don't want to speculate, but it isn't a Hostel, horror style torture. What I am basically saying is that this is not gratuitous torture as much as it is a drama about the first crime of child abuse to make public awareness.

Prom Night
Woah, I was shocked to see this one on the list. I had no idea it was already hitting DVD and Blu-ray even though I was the one that added this and all its unrated and Blu-ray editions to the database. Prom Night is not a good movie and it has taken its fair share of lumps from critics so there isn't a whole lot more to say here. This is a rental at best, and you certainly shouldn't waste your money buying it.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of the Warrior
Here we have yet another film on this list that I reviewed and to say I was not nice to it would be an understatement. This is an awful, awful, awful movie and as I watch the Olympics I am seeing some of the best trailer work being done as the trailers on television are cut so quickly they actually make it look like it might be decent. Don't be fooled folks, this is the worst of all five films associated with the Mummy franchise. No matter what you think of any of the Mummy films this is the one not to watch. Heed my warning.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
I watched this DVD about three weeks ago and I have been trying for days to actually put a review together, but there isn't anything I can think of to say outside of saying "it's good". This isn't an "it's good" that is saying you should buy this film, but I am saying Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a lighthearted diversion from the doom and gloom we are seeing in theaters lately and even though it is a bit cliche it is acted out very well and quite enjoyable. Amy Adams seems to be at the top of her game as of late, Lee Pace turns in a nice supporting performance and Frances McDormand always seems to turn in a worthy performance (Aeon Flux doesn't count). Give this one a rent if you want something a little different, but don't go out of your way.

Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour (2-Disc Extended Edition)
DEAR LORD! Disney sent me the Blu-ray 3-D edition of this concert movie and I am ashamed to say I put on my Miley Cyrus style 3-D glasses and actually sat down on my couch to watch this thing. I made it about 10 minutes as I was twisting and turning my head to try and get the blurry lines to line up and see if I could actually get a real 3-D experience. There were moments of real 3-D but this bubble gum teeny pop crap music is so hard to listen to for a very long time it is tragic. Also, listening to Billy Ray Cyrus in the moments between the music wasn't any better. I am sure little girls will have fun with this, but I don't think any 31-year-old males are going to be picking it up any time soon.
