the castration is told much better in the book though; even including a flashback of the actual event.
i really wish they'd left it in.

eli was castrated as a ritual to "feed" older vampires. they drank the blood from it and i think they ate it as well.

this was a great movie though as i was watching the movie i was thinking this had to be a book so many things seemed to be left open ended and what was the deal with the cats? i know the lore of vampires but i do not recall any thing about cats though it was interesting

@j. noronha: Does anyone know why Eli was castrated? How that all came to be? It makes the whole "I'm not a girl" thing all the more interesting and the shot in the movie really does't make the viewer think "oh, Eli was born a boy."

I watched this movie last weekend and was also thinking what was the deal with the weird nudity scene.

It seems she has a horizontal vagina or something, but the fact is she is actually a boy who was castrated. It seems this point is made clearer in the book the story comes from.

If you remember the scene, Oskar gets scared with the vision of the scar Eli has on her pubis .
