'Mission Impossible 4' In the Works with Abrams Producing

Light the match yet again...

Spoiler TV has happened upon a litte blurb in the latest issue of "TV Guide" with a quote from J.J. Abrams saying he is onboard to produce Mission Impossible 4 with Tom Cruise set to star as Ethan Hunt yet again.

The site scanned the mention in the TV listings mag, which reads:

The man behind "Lost," "Fringe" and the latest Star Trek smash is reteaming with Tom Cruise to resurrect superspy Ethan Hunt for a fourth installment of the popular franchise. "I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission Impossible 4," says J.J. Abrams, who directed 2006's MI: 3, but hasn't yet committed to directing the fourth. "Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing." Send Ethan to the "Lost" island to find out what the hell's going on. That mission is really impossible!

Despite a majority of positive reviews, Abrams' Mission: Impossible 3 only went on to make $134 million domestically on a production budget of $150 million. The worldwide haul was just shy of $400 million, which makes the film feel like much more of a success. Of course, the film came out around the time Cruise had quite the negative public image due to his views on Scientology among other things.

Valkyrie didn't do too bad with $83 million domestically and over $200 million worldwide and his performance in Tropic Thunder was certainly welcomed by many. Only time will tell if audiences have cooled on the Cruise bashing to the point they can sit back and watch him in another popcorn thriller.

I, for one, loved Mission: Impossible 3 and remain a fan of Cruise and hope this one works out.

I also am a huge Cruise fan and believe it to be sad that people would judge him on his religious beliefs and boycott his amazing films. He is one of the best actors of our time!!! MI:4 will be just as good as the third installment!

His personal shenanigans aside, I've always enjoyed the films that Tom Cruise has starred in, dating all the way back to Risky Business. Are they Oscar Bait? Usually; however, they are always enjoyable and often times action-packed thrillrides. Mission: Impossible was great fun and MiIII was another well-crafted tale of espionage.

Suffice it to say: I cannot wait for MiIV. Long live JJ Abrams.

One of the reasons I enjoy the MI franchise is that each film has a unique style, all it's own. I'd rather see a forth installment instead of a sequel to MI:3. Either way, I'll go to see it. Could Abrams be the new Paula Wagner?

@Jay Turber: If you made a statement like that about a jewish actor, your statement would probably be labeled antisemitic. Just wanted to point that out.

Why do Americans seem to treat money not earned in America like second class money, the film earned 400 million and the first thing you say is, well it only earn 134 million in America.

@EnglishGavz: Because it is an American production and deals for foreign territories are not always clear cut. Believe me, at this moment American money is second class money… perhaps even third. All I am doing is stating the facts, not sure why that offends you or how you took it to insinuate I thought money not earned in America was second class.

@EnglishGavz: Just to add to Brad's response. It's 'domestic', not American, which includes both the United States and Canada. All amounts are reported in US dollars.

There's also addition costs associated with 'foreign' earnings. Addition distributors, v/o and subs, rating system costs, copyright, E&O insurance to name a few. The simply fact is for a movie produced in Hollywood a dollar earned in Texas goes a lot farther than a dollar earned in Hong Kong. Same rule applies to Bollywood/Japanese/British/Aussie/any other place movies that are exported to North America.

Will the Rabbit's Foot make an appearance in MI4? Or will they have another shiteous wedding scene at the end?

They ought to recruit Brian dePalma again… both his an Tom's career is cloudy atm. And MI:1 was awesomeness.
