Mike Vogel as Abrams’ Captain Kirk?

Rumors have him as the forerunner

Mike Vogel

IESB is reporting news that Supercross star Mike Vogel is the front runner to star as Captain James T. Kirk in J.J. AbramsStar Trek.

The site says they spoke with two Paramount insiders who said he is indeed the front runner and when they contacted Vogel’s agency the were met with a “can’t officially comment at this time”.

Vogel will ironically be seen in Abrams’ secret Cloverfield/1-18-08 project. If he joins the cast he will be featured alongside Zachary Quinto as young Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy as an older Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov making up the young bridge of the Starship Enterprise.

Star Trek is set for a December 25, 2008 release.
