Michael Mann vs. David Fincher: Nike Football Challenge

Who yah got? Can you even decide?

Jeff Wells at Hollywood Elsewhere pointed out Nike’s latest Nike Football “Leave Nothing” commercial, this year directed by David Fincher and shot by Emmanuel Lubezki (Ali, The New World, Children of Men). The spaghetti western motiff is pretty cool and it got me thinking back to last year’s equally cool (if not cooler) commercial shot by Michael Mann with his frequent DP partner Dante Spinotti (Heat, The Insider, Public Enemies).

Now I leave it up to you, which one do you like better? I know there is an opinion out there because I know there are a lot of Mann and Fincher fans in the RopeofSilicon audience. Then again, perhaps it is a matter of whether you favor Shawne Merriman and Steven Jackson over LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu.

Let your voice be heard.

I Agree but something about Fincher’s version sucked me in, in a way Mann’s couldn’t. I think I found Mann’s a little too Frenetic and "All over the place" for my taste.

Fincher’s ending is more powerful, but it took too long to get there. Still. I prefer it.

I have to disagree with Shane because yes finchers ending showed how far they come from jumping on the bed to crashing into each other but I LOVED Manns because the music and how the camera shifts around them and the change of weather and place is jsut amazing. The ending of Manns i think is more powerful because of hearing Jackson yelling reaching for the goal line and then the music and everything just goes boom(silently)……I enjoyed Finchers but Manns is by far more powerful and better. Now we just need one with Mann doing it on Peyton Manning!!!!
