McAvoy Confirmed for ‘Star Trek’ Scotty Role?

The rumor continues...

Back in February IGN reported the rumor that James McAvoy was rumored to be taking on the role of Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek and with casting full steam ahead and Zachary Quinto landing the role of Spock and Anton Yelchin in as Chekov, the UK tabloid the Sunday Mirror is not reporting that McAvoy has indeed landed the role.

The 28-year-old actor has won the role of chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise, immortalised in Captain Kirk’s phrase “Beam me up, Scotty”, reports the site, confirming McAvoy will play Scotty as a young man.

Original Scotty from the “Star Trek” series was the late James Doohan, a Canadian born actor who died at the age of 84 in 2005. If McAvoy has indeed won the role it looks like a true Scot will play the Scottish starship engineer.

Stay tuned for confirmation as the Mirror can sometimes be… well… wrong.
