Malkovich Joins Coens’ ‘Burn’

Maybe this will help repair his image

John Malkovich has slowly fallen from the days when I thought he could do no wrong. Remember him back in In the Line of Fire as presidential assassin Mitch Leary or as Teddy KGB in Rounders? These are just his latest good roles, there were many before that, but I still can’t get the disgusting performance he gave us in Eragon out of my head. What was he thinking? However, this new news looks to change all of that as he is currently in negotiations to star opposite George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand in the Coen brothers’ Burn After Reading for Focus Features and Working Title Films.

Malkovich would be the star of the dark screwball comedy as Ozzie Cox (Malkovich), a former CIA agent who loses the disc of the memoir he is writing. McDormand will play Cox’s philandering wife. Clooney is set to play an assassin. Because the screenplay is being kept under wraps, it is unclear what Pitt’s character will be.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in August.
