List of the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominees

The actors weigh in...

Nominations for the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning all while the Guild members are split on whether to move forward with a strike or not…

There are certainly a few surprises to be mentioned such as how it looks like Revolutionary Road should start expecting little more than a Kate Winslet nomination as Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Shannon and the film itself are not mentioned. Melissa Leo swoops into the Best Actress category and Kristin Scott Thomas swoops out. Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) takes the Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) nomination and Robert Downey Jr. also gets in on the action for Tropic Thunder. Will the Academy be as open to Downey's comedic role?

Many are talking about Doubt coming out of these nominations, but it really should come as NO surprise whatsoever since the top award is based on an ensemble acting piece and in those terms Doubt knocks it out of the park. It does not necessarily mean it is now a lock for Best Picture. It does bode well for Amy Adams who has down well with nominations also scoring one from the Golden Globes. Could this mean Rosemarie Dewitt (Rachel Getting Married) is out and Amy is in?

Today's nominations are being looked at quite closely as the last major award nominations prior to the Golden Globes on January 11 and the ultimate Oscar nominations on January 22.

As it stands, right now we are looking at a tight group of ladies in the Best Actress category with no clear-cut frontrunner distinguishing themselves, even though Anne Hathaway is coming on strong and Sally Hawkins has gained plenty of traction thanks to critic awards. However, Meryl Streep has a strong performance in Doubt and Kristin Scott Thomas' performance in I've Loved You So Long has been "loved" all year long.

Glad to see Milk with an ensemble nomination. One of my comments in my review was that Sean Penn's performance will probably overshadow the rest of the cast, who are all just phenomenal.

I just saw I've Loved You So Long, and I'm sad to see it not on this list. Kristin Scott Thomas was good, but Elsa Zylberstein flat out blew me away. I really hope she lands an Oscar nod.

Slumdog Millionaire for best Ensemble? The Dark Knight, Revolutionary Road, Rachel Getting Married are at least three that could easily replace that spot. Slumdog Millionaire really is gonna win it all, since the inexplicably a** kissing has taken a new height.

The Leonardo DiCaprio snub is actually appalling. One of the best performances of the year, no doubt. Michael Shannon not being nominated is also ridiculous. Most people are pointing out that Winslet was not as strong as DiCaprio or Shannon in the film, and I agree. I hate that she got nominated.
