I was really hoping the people behind Couples Retreat would get an R and stick with it. It might actually have been funny. Now, I'm not so sure.

As for 2012, I have the same opinion of the rating as I did for Knowing's rating. I didn't have that much trouble watching Knowing, but I think movies like it and 2012 should be rated R for the thematic material of seeing, in vivid detail, so much destruction and massive death.
At any rate, the movie doesn't even look that good. I don't know if I'll even see it. I like the cast, and I'm one of the few in the camp of people who like most of Emmerich's previous films. I just can't work up any interest. Maybe I'll wait for DVD.

'2012', no surprise. But I was expecting them to rate 'Up in the Air'.

If 'Up in the air' is close to the book, it will get a pg-13 for some langauge and sexual content.

@tim: It could also get the rating for 'thematic material' and I thought I noticed a scene of drug use in the trailer. Did I?

I hope '2012' is better than 'Knowing'.

@m1:

I was just thinking about the book , not the trailer. Know that I think of how the MPAA rates movies, I'll take out what I said about sexual content and add sexuality, because there is no nudity in the book. Yes 'thematic materia'l is possible for Alex's sisters eating disorder.

Tetro was released in June, so why is it just now getting rated? Was it released unrated? Does it need the rating to get shelf space in Blockbuster or other family-friendly places?

1) Damn. I wanted Couples Retreat to go hard-R. It's still a potential watch for me because of Akerman and Vaughn.
2) 2012's rating seems pretty tame. It sounds like a soft-PG-13. Either way, I don't care. Roland Emmerich is one of my least favorite currently working directors. No chance I'll see this.
3) Hmm. I'd have thought The Boat That Rocked would be PG-13. Also, I refuse to call it Pirate Radio. I'm very much looking forward to seeing it.
4) Tetro looks epic.
