Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – PG?? Weren't people saying this would be the darkest and most maturest film in the series so far?

@Garrett:

Yup, and this is a setback for a series that should be growing darker and darker.

I hope this movie isn't some pansy, sugary take on the book.
Hopefully it just means the MPAA is loosening up a bit.

Actually, as a book "The Half-Blood Prince" and "Deathly Hallows" were both lighter in tone than "The Order of the Phoenix." I think OOTP is the best of the 7 books, and I was sad when books 6 & 7 reverted to the lighter tone that Books 2-4 had (Book 1 had its own style, which was yet lighter). But I'm still sad about the PG rating. A little bit, at least.

Not really, JM. I think the Sectumsempra fiasco and Hermione's torture scene are stronger than anything in Order of the Phoenix. Also, Katie Bell's poisoning and Umbridge's muggle inquisition are pretty damn scary for a PG movie. So, consider me concerned…

I cannot believe that harry potter got a PG rating. I personally think that this book has some of the darkest moments of the series. I mean, I can't picture the Sectusempra scene going that well if they can't really convay what is happening. I seriously hope that it IS the ratings board loosening up…but I doubt it. I just hope that this doesn't screw up the rest of the series too badly.
