Lane and Gere Team for Sparks' 'Rodanthe'

New romance will hopefully be better than the last.

The last time a Nicholas Sparks romance was adapted into a feature film we got The Notebook, which was one of the sappiest romantic films I have ever seen and it didn't stop pouring it on. So, will this next one be any different?

Warner Bros. has just set Richard Gere and Diane Lane as the leads in a feature adaptation of Nights in Rodanthe with production currently set to begin in late May. This marks a reunion for Gere and Lane who last starred together in the romantic thriller Unfaithful in 2002.

"Rodanthe" will find Gere playing a doctor who is traveling to reconcile with his estranged son. On the way, he checks into an inn in a North Carolina beach town. There, he has a life-changing romance with a woman who's trying to decide whether to stay in her unhappy marriage.

Aside from Notebook, Rodanthe is the fourth adaptation of a Sparks novel, the other two were A Walk to Remember and Message in a Bottle.
