Kidman Bails On Woody Allen's Next Film

See yah later Nic!

I can't exactly say I am all torn up upon learning Nicole Kidman has vacated her role in Woody Allen's upcoming untitled film since Kidman is no longer an actress that actually appeals to me, but it would have been nice to give her another chance considering the names Allen has lined up for this feature.

Kidman was set to star opposite Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Naomi Watts, Freida Pinto and Antonio Banderas in a film currently being described as Allen's return to Europe as he shoots in London this summer and reteams with financer, Mediapro, the Spain-based company which also funded Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

As it stands there is no word on a replacement for Kidman.

Next up for Allen will be this summer's release Whatever Works starry Larry David as a highly eccentric character who runs into a young girl from the South and soon after, her mother and soon after, her father. The three of them, along with Larry David's crazy Greenwich Village friends, get into a series of highly improbable, far out, romantic entanglements. David's co-stars include Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Begley, Jr., Patricia Clarkson and Henry Cavill. Whatever Works hits theaters on June 19.

As for Kidman, she will be seen in this holiday's musical Nine, a film I absolutely can't wait to see.

If I have to be honest: I don't care. Her role was small, probably smaller than Freida Pinto's one.
Hope she will get a great role as protagonist.

Good move Nicole. Look how she's powerful: she can say "bye" to Woody. How many actress can do that?

I don't think this is a demonstration of power. To me, it's a wasted chance of having a great supporting role, working with one of the best directors around.

@Madness:

I'll be honest, too: I don't care, either. Mainly, I don't care for Woody Allen. So I'm not at all concerned that she's ditching a Woody Allen film for something that's likely to be better.

I'm sure I've just committed blasphemy by saying this. But be honest with yourselves: were "Manhattan" and "Annie Hall" really all that great? That's arguable, but what isn't arguable is that they were both the exact same movie, just with the character names and situations shuffled around. I'd think maybe his movies would be better now since his ugly whining mug isn't in them, but one of my friends, a Woody Allen lover, said his latest, "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," was absolutely awful. His girlfriend agreed. Sorry, Brad, I know it was you who put the movie as your #1 last year. "Sorry" meaning I'm actually not apologizing, but merely trying to alleviate the pain my words might bring. :P

Good news. If she was in it, it would probably be a flop.

I kid, I kid…

@JM: to me, "Annie Hall" may be the best romantic comedy ever. I still can't believe how original it is. As for "Manhattan", I enjoyed it, but I didn't love it as most people do. Need to watch it again to comment on your "it's the same movie" theory.

I thought "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" was awesome – Woody's best movie in a decade.

I think Woody's movies are quite overrated.
