Kassovitz Moving to WWII Pic Next

This one's for the kiddies

French helmer Mathieu Kassovitz is currently working on Babylon A.D. with Vin Diesel in the starring role and has set his sights on The Beast for his next feature.

The pic will deal with the Holocaust and is based on a cartoon book that appeared during WWII in which the various nations that took part in the war were portrayed by different animals. The animated feature will be co-scripted by Jean-Claude Carriere. "Children of five will be able to see the film and it will inform their understanding of World War II when they are 15 and learning about it at school," Kassovitz told Variety.

Following that he will move to the live-action feature The Cave, about a true incident in a far-flung French overseas territory. Kassovitz plans to put it into production next year.

Babylon A.D. is set to hit theaters on February 29, 2008 and is inspired by Maurice Dantec's novel "Babylon Babies," telling a story set in the near future and concerns genetic manipulation. In the book, a mercenary charged with delivering a young woman from Russia to Canada learns that she has been manipulated by a synthetic virus and what lies inside her could doom the human race.
