Justin Lin Remaking 'Highlander' for Summit

Fast and Furious helmer moves on to cult sci-fi

Summit Entertainment has announced Fast and Furious director Justin Lin is set to direct a remake of the 1986 cult-favorite Highlander, which starred Christopher Lambert as Connor 'The Highlander' MacLeod, an immortal Scottish swordsman must confront the last of his kind, a murderously brutal barbarian, who lusts for the fabled Prize. The remake will be written by Iron Man scripters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

The press release announcing the remake says the new film will expand on the original Highlander's core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages by tapping its newly minted creative team to take its re-imagination to new heights.

There is no word on when the production is to get underway, but expectation is to turn this into a brand new franchise.

I don't know about you, but the first Highlander never impressed me, but I guess a new version could be entertaining… I guess… Perhaps this will be Summit's fanboy franchise counter to their fangirl Twilight-dominated slate. Here's the trailer for the original if you haven't seen it.

Hooray! Another remake, that isn't needed. Make sure to make it in 3D, to draw in some audience for the full effect so they just don't download it for free. Everyday Hollywood ups the disappointment ante. I dono, might want to attempt somthing new..

I'm not waiting for a remake but if they do anyway I wouldn't mind seeing more backstory of The Kurgan (fantastically protrayed by Clancy Brown).
Provided the story is good, casting is solid, they don't fall back to gimmicks like 3d, etc. etc……
