John Carpenter's 'The Thing' Sees a New Chapter On the Way

It never ends...

And the hits keep on coming as if the idea of a Lizzie Maguire and Air Bud version of Bonnie and Clyde wasn't enough we now have a "re-imagining" of John Carpenter's The Thing on the way with "Battlestar Galactica" exec producer Ron Moore writing the script and commercials director Matthijs Van Heijningen at the helm.

I have no idea how it will be any different since the source material remains the same in the John W. Campbell Jr. short story "Who Goes There" and the 1951 Howard Hawks original The Thing From Another World. The story will still be set in a Norwegian camp and chronicle how the shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp.

Horror website Bloody-Disgusting actually reported all of this news earlier and has also said "Van Heijningen is pushing to make the lead character none other than R.J. MacReady's brother." For those unfamiliar R.J. MacReady was played by Kurt Russell. They also offer up the following plot details:

"In the screenplay by Ronald D. Moore, the prequel takes place from the Norwegian camps point of view. An American scientific expedition to the frozen wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting a dog.

The helicopter pursuing the dog crashes leaving no explanation for the chase.

During the night, the dog mutates and attacks other dogs in the cage and members of the team that investigate. The team soon realize that an alien life-form with the ability to take over bodies is on the loose and they don't know who may already have been taken over."

A commenter recently said on the previously mentioned story about Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers taking over a new Bonnie and Clyde story, "In my opinion they should remake movies that had good premises but failed as a film." Wouldn't that be a novel idea? Credit to 'chewbaca69' for the comment.

I might be interested in a remake of "The Thing." I'm gonna wait and see who the director is?
