‘Jennifer’s Body’ has a Helmer

Diablo Cody's next film will be looked at closely

Karyn Kusama

So, I am obviously on record as having problems with Juno. I didn’t hate it, just had problems with it. However, everyone else loves it and a lot of that love is because of screenwriter Diablo Cody’s quirky little script, which means her next one is going to be looked at quite closely. That next film is Jennifer’s Body starring Transformers hottie Megan Fox and being produced by Juno helmer Jason Reitman.

Well, Reitman wasn’t going to direct so the film needed a helmer to get moving along, and Variety is reporting a helmer has been found in the form of Karyn Kusama. Who? Oh, wait, the chick that directed the uber-flop Aeon Flux. Yikes!

Of course, Jennifer’s Body is not a sci-fi feature based on an MTV P.O.S. anime. Instead, Jennifer’s Body is described as a quirky comedic thriller. Ha, what else did you expect from Cody? I think the word “quirky” is going to haunt her for life.

The film will be distributed by Fox Atomic and Megan Fox will play a cheerleader in a sleepy town whose perfect life goes haywire when she becomes possessed and begins killing the young men in town who lust after her.

Admittedly, it sounds interesting, and since it is worlds apart from Aeon Flux we can’t judge Kusama based on that effort. Who knows, this may be right down her alley. We can only hope so because it would be nice to see Fox Atomic finally have a successful film.

Shooting begins in early March.

She also directed the quite excellent Michelle Rodriguez boxing movie GIRLFIGHT. Let’s hope this one is more like that and nothing like that not-quite-horendous-but-still-pretty-bad Charlize Theron stink bomb.
