Jackie Chan to Play Mr. Miyagi Role in 'Karate Kid' Remake

Yeah, this is necessary...

Why Sony Pictures feels the need to remake The Karate Kid is beyond me. Why anyone felt Jaden Smith was the one to star in it leaves me even more baffled after watching him in The Day the Earth Stood Still. Now that Jackie Chan has signed on to star in the Mr. Miyagi role I am pretty sure it can't get much worse.

Entertainment Weekly breaks the news saying Chan will take on Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi role in the Harald Zwart (The Pink Panther 2) directed feature, which will shoot entirely in China. The story is expected to basically change for Jaden’s age (10) but will still center on a bullied youth who learns to stand up for himself with the help of an eccentric mentor. Chris Murphy penned the script, but I have no idea who he is.

Oh, and for those that don't know Jaden Smith is the son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Why are they remaking Karate Kid you ask? We've got a whole generation coming up that has no sense of history of the cinema. If it's not full of special effects they haven't seen it. Older generations knew/know their parents stars but today's kids are sheltered from anything but themselves.

Whoa, Geri!

First of all, I'm 12, and I am offended!
Second of all, no way I'm gonna see this movie, it looks like freaking crap and will be freaking crap. I've told my friends about it and they laughed in my face.

Third of all, we do (or at least some of us) have a sense of the history of cinema. Being a kid, there's nothing wrong with liking Kurosawa AND Iron Man.

I never saw the Karate Kid, but I still think this movie is highly unnecessary

well, so much for the thought of a decent remake…the Smith kid helped kill TDTESS, so the Karate Kid should be fun for him and Chan to screw over…what's next? Jaden Smith, Chris Kattan, and Brittany Spears in the Uwe Boll directed Pulp Fiction remake?

I wonder if they even asked Ralph Macchio to be part of this film. If so, hopefully he hung up emphatically on them. There's no need for this remake at all.

Shouldn't this be re-titled to "The Kung Fu Kid"?

The original wasn't that good but right for that time (and for the age I was then).
I can understand doing a remake, but Jackie Chan? Filmed in China? A 10 year old?
I'm at a loss for words.

They are making a karate film in CHINA. Jackie Chan (chinese) plays Mr. Miyagi, which I suppose is japanese (at least in original movie). Wtf!?

Since Jackie Chan is in it, there'll definitely be a blooper reel during the end credits. Gob Bless Pat Morita's soul and thank goodness he'll be spared the sight of this abomination.
