It’s ‘24′ Divided by 12

That makes a 2 hour prequel baby!

Hey, that's Jack!

Apparently, the producers of “24″ came to terms with their roles as crack peddlers to the millions of us “24″ hopheads out there who’ll be suffering 2 years of withdrawal since the writer’s strike delayed season 7 to 2009 (read about my pain here). They must know we need a fix—oh so bad—and to prevent mass chaos in the streets “24″ will finally get the film treatment. Well, kind of.

This isn’t the long-rumored “24″ theatrical film. According to the Hollywood Reporter, a “24″ made-for-TV movie that fills the gap between season 6 and 7 will broadcast this fall. Nothing much was given for story details, but I’ll assume the plot involves terrorists and Jack Bauer maiming and terminating a chock-full of folks while screaming, “Who do you work for!?!” or “Where is the bomb!?!” and “Damnit!!!” Oh what the hell do I know? It could be called “A Very Bauer Christmas” as far as we know and center on the one day of the year Jack Bauer tries not to kill anyone.

Whether the movie will follow the real-time gimmick and be renamed 2 is also unknown. My hope is that it abandons the real-time device altogether and is 80 minutes (after commercials) of Jack Bauer and no bullshit filler. However, as long as this isn’t a 2-hour Toyota commercial like the “prequel” short films on the season 4 and 5 DVDs, then as of now I’m staked to the couch in anticipation while trying to fight off the DTs.
