Is There More to ‘Vantage Point’ or Have We Seen It All?

A pre-screening prognostication...

I am going to see Vantage Point in approximately 75 minutes and I was debating on whether I should write this article before or after seeing the film, but since I felt it wouldn’t be possible to write it with the same energy after seeing the film and avoid spoilers I am going for the before film prognostication.

If you have seen the trailer for Vantage Point you already know that on the surface it looks like we have seen the entire film. The President has been assassinated and eight different people saw it from eight different angles, but wait… What’s this? The President is actually still alive? Then they have the nerve to ask us if we can find all the clues and figure it all out? Whaweewah!?

Yeah, in this day and age when trailers pretty much ruin all films it would appear this one was sabotaged long ago, but then why would they pretend there is something to figure out? Wanna know what I think? Well, if not then go the hell away, if so continue reading.

The trailer says, “If you think you’ve seen it all… think again.”

Even though I thought I saw it all I am willing to take them up on their offer and think again… Here’s what I think.

I think there was a terrorist plot to assassinate the president. I think the filmmakers used the 9/11 stories to create their plotline and this time the government knew about the plot and decided to act on it rather than wait for the planes to fly into the building. I think they put up a dummy prez, probably Mission: Impossible fake face style… However, things get all mucked up when the dude actually gets blasted on live television. Now the prez is still alive and the terrorists know it, they have an insider and it’s the dude in the trailer that says, “For the moment the Americans think they have dodged a bullet.”

Later in the trailer the same guy says, “The beauty of American arrogance is that they cannot imagine a world where they are not a step ahead.” This tells me that when the tip came in the terrorists knew they would either be shooting the real prez or a fake one, either way they were, yup, a step ahead. This all means the suits are chasing a ghost considering the threat is on the inside!

Yeah, I said, “Ahhh snap!” too when I thought of it… and now… the hunt is on to reveal the truth and get to the bottom of the dastardly plot, all the clues are there… you just need to see it from the right…

Vantage Point!

Yeah, it sounds too good to be true. I am going to find out in less than an hour now. I think it has the potential to be good; it also has the potential to be downright awful. I am hoping for the former, while pessimistically expecting the latter. One thing is for certain, if Atli Örvarsson’s score is anything like the music in the trailer I am definitely picking it up.

Wish me luck. Here’s the trailer for the uninitiated:
