Is It Just Me or Does ‘The Spirit’ Look Awful?

Someone please tell me what I am supposed to get out of this trailer

A new trailer for Frank Miller’s solo directing debut The Spirit has shown up online and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t look downright dreadful. What the hell is going on here? Perhaps in movie form it will be unique and extremely gratifying, but as a trailer I would never think about this film again if I were an average moviegoer.

What do you think, is this something you are interested in based on how weird it looks or is it too weird for you to care? Do I need to pick up the comic to understand what is going on here and the film will clue me in? Help me, I’m baffled.

I want to see it. I’m not excited about it, but I think it’s going to look good. I really like Sin City and 300, but mostly because of what they look like. Every frame of those movies would make a cool picture. I think this is what Frank Miller wants to do. He just wants to make a beautiful looking movie. I’m not saying that it looks beautiful, but I’m sure that the finish product is going to be a very visual film. Story wise, it will probably suck. Anyway, put Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson in a movie together, and I’m in!

Looks completely stupid. Absolutely and totally stupid.

I really enjoyed Sin City, but hated 300 with a passion, so Im not sure where that puts me in the scheme of things when it comes to Frank Miller films, but regardless…just looks terrible.

Begging your pardon, but it’s you! I think it looks really interesting. I guess that it might appeal to women and men, though. Wouldn’t that be interesting — a comic book movie that appeals to women as well as men? That would be unusual. Plus, I like the fact that the trailer doesn’t spoon feed me the plot, but assumes that I have enough of a brain to figure out what’s going on.

The comic is full of the Spirit’s adventures with adversaries, many of whom are femme fatales, so the concentration at the beginning of the trailer on the women is in line with, excuse the reference, the "spirit" of "The Spirit." I’m a LOT more excited about this than I was before. I don’t think it’s going to interest the "puberty to basement" fan-boy crowd, but I think we adults will probably get a kick out of it.

Are you making a snap judgment of me or just speaking in general terms? If this is directed at me I credit you with letting me know I should dismiss your opinion entirely, even though I thought everything else you said was interesting.
