'Iron Man 2' Set for 2010 and More Marvel Release Dates

Yup, including 'The Avengers'

What do I know about superheroes? Well, one thing I know is that they are the only movies anyone ever talks about anymore. They have inspired legions of movie blogs and basically ruined old school film commentary as the rise of the geek has inspired studios to forget about making anything more than big budget spectacles, focusing all their dollars on the blogline grabbing saviors of the world.

Well, the tradition is going to continue well into 2011 as Marvel has announced the release dates of four more films inside their first quarter report today.

Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.

See, that's what a $100+ million box-office opening does for a production studio. The Incredible Hulk probably won't duplicate Iron Man's success, but I would say summer 2008 is one that Marvel won't be forgetting any time soon.
