You can have your boycott and eat it too. Just buy tickets to a non-Fox film and sneak into Avatar and Wolverine. The theater gets its money, and Fox sees nothing.

How about we boycott all the terrible movies Fox puts out (The Day the Earth Stood Still) and only go see the few good ones (Hopefully Wolverine, Avatar). This will make them make more good movies, then we get to see the good movies and the world is rid of their shitty ones! Heres a better idea, we do this with every studio!

Also! As if I haven't said enough.

Why are there no talks of boycotting Warner Brothers? They are partially at fault. They should have done all legal checks before dealing with Gordon.

For all we know, Fox could (or has) offered a settlement that would allow the movie to be released and Warners could (or has) tell them to shove it. The way things look now, if Warners thinks that damaging Wolverine and Avatar sales is more profitable than releasing Watchmen and handing over money/rights to Fox, then they might be less than negotiable.

Maybe we should check out what movies Warners has that could open the same weekends as Fox's promising attractions. Maybe Time Warners, that giant company with some $60 billion in equity, is looking to devalue before purchase. 'Wyle E' eyed conspiracy theory or long term business strategy?

@GregM: Ha, don't worry about the grammar, it's not as if I don't make mistakes on occasion and in comments it's an entirely different thing... however, your vs. you're is a case of using two different "words" and I just feel grammar is taking a major hit in our new world of blogging and text messaging. But that's all off the topic so I will stop now.

Oh, and a shorter version of that featurette played as part of AMC's First Look. My fiancé hasn't read Watchmen, much as I've prodded him to, but after seeing both this and the most recent trailer in front of Yes Man, he's really excited for the movie, and has joined me in my Fox boycott.

Any list that starts with going to law school and finishes with realizing there are more important things in life is worth a read, but I have notes.

2. Your(!) underlying hatred of language and grammatical errors scares me, especially when I notice typos after I've reread and posted a comment.

4. Alan Moore's close minded. He writes, I assume, to tell stories. Movies tell stories. So why not incorporate a previous story of his into a movie. A wide release movie will reach more people than a top selling book. The latest Twilight novel had 3.7 million copies printed in it's first run (which it's still in, five months later). This past week more than 5 million people in North America alone saw Marley and Me.

5. You should ask Uwe to write a section for ROS about financing and casting major motion pictures. Regardless of what I think about his flicks, at least he has flicks; many, many flicks.

6. Perhaps to some posters, English is a foreign language that they are trying to learn. I taught ESL and one of the things I encouraged was students posting to message boards in English. I know the difference between your and you're enough to know when others do not. In the grand scheme of world wide communication, the details of one language don't really matter.

7. Yes, Fox should of had first right of refusal over the project when Zack came on board, but Warner's went ahead and made the movie. So, I think, Warner's should offer Fox a portion of equity ownership in the completed film. This means Fox would reimburse Warner's for a percentage of all costs incurred (which I would ceiling at 50%) and in return receive that same percentage of the earnings. Fox could state that they would have made the movie differently or marketed it better (ha!) but they didn't. To me, this solution is logical and fair.

8. Not better, different. The movie will inherently have a better sense of visual movement and actual audio. The book will have more content and the squid, in all its glory!

9. If I take up boxing maybe I could fight Uwe Boll.

10. Don't underestimate the effect entertainment has on culture, culture on society, and society on the economy. I'm not saying the Watchmen will increase car sales or encourage responsible banking (or solve food shortages or climate change, anybody remember those other non monetary yet life threatening issues) but it can't hurt.

I don't really care about Wolverine, and Avatar, if I get really really curious, I'll sneak in. What's going to be harder is not buying any Fox DVDs. I was going to go pick up House, but now I can't. Unless I get it from a reseller, then Fox doesn't get a cut...

All of your reasons except number 9 & 10 fall on deaf ears here. I don't see Fox movies for the same reason I don't see other studio's movies. I judge them to be crappy movies, based on my standards. Sometimes that works out with political reasons, all the better. I would really rethink reason number 10. The film industry might be the last great American industry, and as you say with a failing economy that seemingly unimportant release date, might mean a payday to somebody..

Your arguement has not convinced me. I could care less about Avatarm though it does look pretty. And Wolverine, though I do WANT to see it, it won't be worth it in the long run anyways. So, in conclusion. Yes I will be boycotting. And I'll boycott alone if I must. I'm not trying to start up some large movement. It may not be effective, but it suits me nonetheless.

What would Alan Moore do?

He would say F' it, and ignore it all together.

I WILL NOT IGNORE THESE PROBLEMS MOORE.

I don't want to deprive myself of Wolverine or Avatar, but I'm willing to if that's what it comes to. Honestly, Wolverine looks kind of stupid anyway. As for Avatar, well, that will be more difficult.

I'm going to Law School, hence why I'm sad that there's really no way outside of Fox's tactics and the unclear nature of the turnaround agreement Larry Gordon had with Fox to justify ruling against Fox in this case.

I'm no Watchmen fanboy, though, just looking forward to the movie, so that sets me apart.

I think I'll go for a jog now.
