Heath Ledger Hates Comic Book Movies

No seriously, he 'really' doesn't like them

Doesn’t it seem like so many Hollywood actors have come out and said how much they like this comic and that comic and that is why they are so happy they get to play this guy or that guy? Well, Heath Ledger doesn’t swing that way folks. Nope, in an interview for DarkHorizons he comes out pretty strong against comic book movies in fact. This in spite of the fact that he is going to be playing The Joker in the upcoming Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight.

Here is what he had to say:

I actually hate comic book movies, like fucking hate them, they just bore me shitless and they’re just dumb. But I thought what Chris Nolan did with Batman was actually really good, really well directed, and Christian Bale was really great in it.”

Hmmm, can’t fault a guy for being honest, but I can’t see publicists for the studio liking this move. However he does continue on and reveals a nice little quote on his thoughts on the role, which are quite similar to what we heard before.

He’s going to be really sinister and it’s going to be less about his laugh and his pranks and more about just him being a just a fucking sinister guy…I’m sure they’re super happy that I’m doing this, because this is the first time I’ve really kind of taken something like that, so they’re over the moon. But I think it’s just going to be a really fun experience, and I love to dress up and wear a mask… I’ve seen a few interesting designs on the look and I think that it’s going to look pretty cool.

If he hates them so much, why cast him? Even though he concedes that Chris Nolan did a really good job with Batman do you honestly think he (Heath) will portray The Joker well if he doesn’t even believe in the genre? I hope the studio decides to rethink the whole Heath Ledger portraying The Joker if it’s nothing but a "Halloween" experience for him because with that attitude, I don’t think he will do the character justice. Move on from the egocentric Heath Ledger and find someone who will really do the character justice and actually like doing it. I’m sure one of those type actors can be found. Just my opinion for what it’s worth.
