'Gothika' Director Heads to 'Babylon'

Kassovitz tapped by Fox for futuristic thriller.

When you hear a title like Babylon A.D., the "A.D." part doesn't really stick in your head and you think this is going to be some old school epic but Fox's Babylon is heading into the future, and Mathieu Kassovitz will be leading the charge from the director's chari.

Inspired by Maurice Dantec's novel "Babylon Babies," the story is set in the near future and concerns genetic manipulation. In the book, a mercenary charged with delivering a young woman from Russia to Canada learns that she has been manipulated by a synthetic virus and what lies inside her could doom the human race.

The other bit of news surrounding Kassovitz is that he has also been tapped to star in Steven Spielberg's Untitled 1972 Munich Olympics Project, which puts him in the company of Eric Bana, Geoffrey Rush and Daniel Craig. Filming on that will begin this summer and Kassovitz will move into Babylon A.D. following production on Spielberg's film.
