Gandolfini Boards 'Pelham 123'
Can they do any better than the original?

I recently watched the original The Taking of Pelham 123 starring Martin Matthau and Robert Shaw because I was told it was a "heist" movie and I was looking for more for my Top Ten Heist Films list. Knowing the synopsis I was skeptical but I wanted to see it anyway so I gave it a shot. It wasn't that bad of a film, it certainly wasn't a "heist" film, but the one thing I got from it was that I didn't see any reason to remake it, or how it would be remade to be any different/better than the original.
Director Tony Scott has put together Denzel Washington to take over Matthau's place as the cop who must stop John Travolta who leads a team of hoods who hijack a subway car and hold it for ransom. James Gandolfini is aboard to play the mayor of New York, a very small part in the original film, there is no telling how big it will be in the remake.
The article doesn't discuss when the film will begin lensing or who else will be part of Travolta's crew, but I am sure if Travolta has anything to say about it he will definitely be the only A-lister taking shit over. Hopefully we will get word soon, because I can't wait to see who snags the role of Mr. Grey, originally played by Hector Elizondo. No way they can remove the quote, "Yeah, well, that's the difference between you and me. I've always done my own killing."
