@GregM: Actually Greg, the film was originally titled Dancing with Shiva and I would assume it has nothing to do with the Clayton line.

I'm going to rant about something for a second but, let me preface this by stating that I have not seen nor read the full script for Rachel Getting Married.

In the Rachel script there is a line on page 33-3/8 that reads, "I'm Shiva the destroyer"; it's also used in the trailer at the 50 second mark. This is very similar to the "I'm Shiva the God of death" line from Michael Clayton, at page 34-3/8 of that script. The Rachel script above is dated October 17, 2007. Michael Clayton's theatrical release was October 12, 2007.

What bothers me is that despite the use of the Shiva reference in Michael Clayton, which occurs at pivotal moments of that story, the Rachel scribe still chose to utilize the reference. Even beyond the script, the line in Rachel was still shot and edited into the trailer despite Michael Clayton's Oscar nom for best screenplay.

I guess my problem is that at no point during the development, production, or post of Rachel did anyone drop/change the line, or worse yet, they might not have even thought about it. I'd understand if Michael Clayton came out ten years ago or wasn't a critical success, but neither of those are true.

I doubt the Shiva reference was intentionally recycled, but it's use in Rachel seems unoriginal. At least to me. That's all I really wanted to say. Any thoughts?
