A 'Footloose' Remake? Really?

Of all the unnecessary things to do

In the 1980s we were perfectly willing to assume a small midwestern town where dancing has been banned, but at this point don't we deserve something a little better?

Word out of Variety is that Paramount is getting ready to develop a musical remake of Footloose with Kenny Ortega directing Zac Efron as the lead. Efron would play the part made popular by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 classic in which he plays a rebellious newcomer in a small town where dancing has been banned. I can't help but wonder who is going to be taking on the John Lithgow role and I really wonder if it will be called Footloose again.

The article goes on to say that the film was already performed as a full-blown Broadway musical, but that doesn't make this a good idea. However, I will admit I dig the first one… Here is a little something for yah. Let's DANCE!!!!
