A First Look at Alex Proyas’s Apocalypse

Nic Cage aside, I am interested in this one

Yes, it is a big deal that director Alex Proyas is getting back to work on his first major film since 2004’s I, Robot, a film I enjoyed even though others didn’t so much. Proyas has brought us such films as The Crow and Dark City, and his next film starring Nicolas Cage goes down a different path and USA Today has our first look at Knowing.

In Knowing, Nicolas Cage is a man who discovers a series of numbers that foretell catastrophes, including the 9/11 attacks. Cage discovers a letter buried in a time capsule outside a school. It doesn’t mean anything to him until he sees the digits 911, which sets him on a course to prevent further catastrophes.

Concerning the reference to the September 11th attacks, Cage told USA Today, “I know that number jumps out at people, but that’s just a beginning point for the movie. And that doesn’t mean you can’t mention it. It’s time for a return to dark thrillers that are relevant. We’re already living in a world where up is down.”

Director Alex Proyas was quoted saying that although film should never lose its aim to entertain, “there’s still a need to address what’s going on in people’s lives. Hopefully, we do it in a light that’s a positive experience but still responsible.”
