First Look at M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Last Airbender'

Does it satisfy your expectations?

USA Today has revealed the first two images from M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender based on the Nickelodeon cartoon "Avatar: The Last Airbender."

The image you see above features Dev Patel of Slumdog Millionaire fame playing the film's bad guy, Zuko, a "firebender" who can manipulate flames and the image at the bottom of this post is of Noah Ringer, a 12-year-old playing Aang, an Avatar who can manipulate weather, because he usually shaves his head to keep him cool for tae kwon do. Ringer didn't need a lot of manipulation to get into the part as he keeps his head shaved and is an expert in martial arts.

The Last Airbender is the first film in a planned trilogy revolving around Aang, a young hero who has the ability to manipulate the elements and stop a ruthless nation from destroying the three other nations.

The film will be released by Paramount Pictures and has a July 2, 2010 release date. Along with Ringer and Patel, the film features Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone and Jessica Jade Andres and is directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense).

Is this Shyamalan's first movie that doesn't have an original script? I always thought he should try his hand at an adapted screenplay, but not something like this…

I seriously hope his next project shows more promise. I won't pass judgment on this one until we have more information to go with, but things are not looking up.

*Sighhhh* I'll go watch "Sixth Sense" again, I suppose.

Wow, Dev Patel went from Slumdog Millionaire to the Last Airbender, but i still believe in Shymalan even after movies The Village and The Happening. I wish he would go back to the days where he made movies like Signs and Sixth Sense. Hopefully this one comes through

This movie looks good, hopefully it will make up for the disappointing failure and horrible story of Dragon Ball Evolution. if shymalan sticks to the actual storyline of avatar this movie will reach heights of greatness never expected!

M. Night Shymalan "USED" to be one of America's finest and most respected directors. From 1998-2002 he directed three brilliant, well-crafted films: The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. He went 3-0 and secured his spot on Hollywood's shortlist of elite directors. Then, the unthinkable happened: he directed a shoddy film…..then…horrors…another flop….then yet another.

I hate to admit it, but the man who used to be one of my go-to directors is now 3-3: Three good films, three bad films – how do ya like them apples?

I wanna believe that this film will be different; however, I give the film a 50-50 shot of being better than average. Lets hope Night proves me wrong.

Sigh, I guess I'm the only person who actually liked The Village and preferred it to the over-rated bore that was Signs. Maybe it was the message of the movie which appealed more to me than that of Signs.

Back to this movie, so far I have no idea how it will end up finally. I don't think this will be that massive though. Dragonball has single-handedly probably already killed the anime-to-live action genre completely. Unless this turns out to be Star Trek-awesome, I just don't see that many people being interested.

@haylinhere:

lol now at second look
it doesn't really look that bad
if you don't stare at the non=realistic graphics
it looks kinda good

but i want to know why movies are going down on the amazement of special effects. yeah they're using them but not as good as any more.

evil Dragonball Evolution for destroying live-action :(
