Is it just me, or does Twilight look like Buffy fan-fiction gone horribly, horribly awry? Seriously, it looks like an extended episode of Buffy with a lower budget and no jokes.

I think all the fangirl hype is really overblowing box office expectations. The movie looks too dark to attract the tweenage High School Musical set and too boring to attract adults. I think Summit should look to Serenity for a sobering lesson: if a rabid fanbase with the modicum of influence that comes with having a popular blog or website consisting of people who can actually spell and use proper capitalization (Lily, you are quite possibly the first Twilight fan who appears to speak English as a first language that I have ever seen on the internet) cannot make a movie a box office success, what hope does a studio have when its fanbase can't drive themselves to the movie theatre?

Now that I think of it, it looks more like Underworld fanfiction. The lighting (or lack thereof), the bland costumes, the wooden acting... Yeah, definitely Underworld fanfic.

Obviously fans of the series will love the movie unless there are issues with unsuitable characters and what-not.

I am a pretty big fan of the series and am really looking forward to seeing the movie. Like many other books-turned-movie there will definitely be some changes that differ from the book but I'll be ready for that.

From what I've seen in the preview so far, it looks quite interesting. Unfortunately this film was not produced/directed by a major film production company else it would probably be much more than what it is now.

(LOLXD ♥ love the books and hopefully the movie will be fantastic XD
>.< but im not like OMG about pattinson which i do find annoying
please, stereotypes about teens >.

I love the new trailer, but then I'm also a fan of the books and what I hope for is to be able to feel the emotional journey I get in the books on the screen.

But what I thought the guys would get a kick out of is my 16 year old son's reaction to the trailer. First he said it looked like a cool movie, he liked the action sequences, but then he pops off, "its the red shirt curse."

I was confused at first and then he points out that Bella's truck is literally the only red truck on the school parking lot, so of course the van was going to come hit her. I watched the trailer again and sure enough... :P

My God, those comments. So, basically, talking about Twilight is a really touchy subject, if you like it, you're an "excitable teeny-bopper" and if you don't, get ready for the bashing =S
The trailer does give an idea of the overall story and it looks just like any other movie with that same budget, but it's basically a combination of the first two with just a little something extra.

Bottom line? Those who choose to be close-minded before giving due chance, will come down on it. They will be proven wrong when the film does well, and then they will continue to come down on it. They'll make up excuses such as, 'of course it did well, with fanatics and screaming teens...' etc.

But it's those who are throwing around their macho grunts with - 'shitty' this, and 'abysmally terrible' that - who you will find in the darkest corner of every theatre showing Twilight...hiding behind his tub of popcorn....the same ones who just weeks earlier crapped on the film...and will then be in tow to see it? What do you want to bet? I'd bet a lot.

One last thing... It's a shame people have to come down on others for merely displaying a passion for something, whatever the reason behind it. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't understand such a passion, as it leads me to believe they've never experienced such a thing. So, hate it, don't hate it...see it don't see it. But hey, keep talking about it...free press and all.

Whoa....we went from discussing the Twilight trailer to freedom of speech and Sarah Palin? Strange.

Perhaps I can things back on track by discussing the trailer? Hmmm, I was a little nervous about seeing it, frankly. Yes, I'm an adult who will admit to being a fan of the books. I loved the first teaser trailer (it's what made me seek out the first book...and yeah, that turned into the second book...the third...you get the picture). The second teaser I didn't really care for at all.

Having said all of that I was very pleasantly suprised with the official full-length trailer. I might nitpick a few minor points, but I think overall it did a good job of explaining the basic plot more fully for people that are unfamiliar with Twilight. The chemistry of Bella and Edward (which really is the cornerstone of the whole movie) really sung for me in the trailer. The action bits looked a bit better; the treetop stuff was stunning...altogether, I thought it was excellent.

Um, and yes...we understand that it's not a $300-million budgeted Harry Potter or Batman movie. It doesn't look like one, does it? We also understand it's not Academy award-winning fare. It looks like it's going to be what I expected...a cracking good yarn.

Brad,

I totally understand that everyone has the right to their opinion. I am just tired of being labeled as "fanatical" simply because I want to defend a movie that I am interested in. In my previous comments, I am venting about the bashing of the movie not only on this site (which I frequent often and respect wholeheartedly), but on several others with people dismissing me as dumb for just liking something that is mainstream. I do see your point though... I do come off as a bit judgmental... but I really just want people to give something a chance before they look down on it.

As an aside... I do think that it is terribly rude to compare my comments to those of Sarah Palin and right-wing conservatives... I think it is a huge leap to equate the two... I am not telling anyone not to speak their minds... I am just saying my own feelings.... This is a message board and the point of it is to inspire discussion (which I am more than happy to engage in). Insults are not necessary....

Didn't we allready have a discussion about people having different opinions?
That we don't allways have to agree?

Why are people now getting shit for not being interested in the film, the books and/or the actor?

Apparently giving a negative comment about twilight or pattinson (or not putting him in your list) makes you stupid and unfair.
Not being interested in the film gives you a superiority complex.
Not wearing a flagpin makes you a terrorist.
And living in a state that borders another country makes you an expert in foreign relations.........

Good to see that freedom of thought and freedom of speech are not dead in western society. :banghead:
P.S. I'm not interested, sue me or send in the marines. No bother.

Lily, I am confused when you say "let us enjoy the movie... No one is asking you to see it... No one will hold it against you.... Just do you sneering in private so we can watch the movie without being judged."

No one is stopping you from enjoying the movie. Also, is there any reason the film can't be judged by those not interested in seeing it as well as those that are?

You are now "sneering" toward people not interested in seeing it, which is hypocritical.

Personally, I am interested in seeing it. I read the first book and hope it is good. I enjoyed the first book. Assumptions concerning Twilight are general. Just because you are 22 doesn't mean the majority of the people that are fanatical about the book and have a large and aggressive online presence are not younger and as you say "excitable teeny-boppers".

It's hard to make a case when you judge people and then ask not to be judged yourself don't you think?

OK... I am a 22 year-old woman who enjoys Twilight immensely. I am also a college graduate, not a high school student. I am well-read and knowledgeable about film and film history. So I think I have a little bit of credibility. I am not going to rave on and on about Rob Pattinson or anything so please don't worry... even though I am a fan of his and I am not ashamed of that fact. So please, don't assume that all people who are "pro-Twilight" are excitable teeny-boppers.

Twilight is not my typical movie. I started reading the books because my friend knew that I am a huge fan of gothic literature and horror film. I was just as skeptical as everyone else about the books, assuming that because I was not thirteen I would not like them.

But, as it turns out, I did like them. I actually think that they are quality books for young adults and it keeps teens reading instead of staring at the television for hours. It has given me an opportunity to connect with my 13-year-old niece. And like her, I am looking forward to the movie. Of course, it has a relatively low budget and that is reflected in the quality of the scenes that I have seen thus far. I am not terribly fond of many of the actors, with the exclusion of Pattinson and Peter Facinelli. Also, the marketing is confusing, oscillating between a teen love story and a Covenant-like action film.

Yet, I am still excited about the film. Why, you may ask? Because I know exactly what I am getting with the movie. I am not expecting Oscar-worthy cinema here... I am expecting a great popcorn film with identifiable scenes from the book that I can recognize. I am expecting entertainment, not a message. And if there is one thing that I have learned from my love of all things horror, it is that I should just enjoy the movie for what it is... a way to escape from the banality of life for a couple of hours...

So please cynics, just let us enjoy the movie... No one is asking you to see it... No one will hold it against you.... Just do you sneering in private so we can watch the movie without being judged.

BTW... most of us "Twilighters" are well aware of the financial crisis in this country, as well as the war in Iraq... please do not diminish my intelligence or anyone else's simply because you believe that you interests are superior to mine....

OK… I am a 22 year-old woman who enjoys Twilight immensely. I am also a college graduate, not a high school student. I am well-read and knowledgeable about film and film history. So I think I have a little bit of credibility. I am not going to rave on and on about Rob Pattinson or anything so please don't worry… even though I am a fan of his and I am not ashamed of that fact.

I'll admit it isn't Breaking News for most, but for the Twilighters it is bigger than the economic downfall or the war in Iraq. Just satisfying all sides when I can... :)
