Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have posted articles announcing that Roland Emmerich's prehistoric epic 10,000 B.C. has been picked up out of turnaround by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Columbia Pictures initially acquired the rights for the film, which chronicles the journey of a young tribal mammoth hunter at the dawn of modern man.

The film will be directed by Emmerich who's last film was the disaster film The Day After Tomorrow.

The film will apparently be positioned as a 2007 summer tent-pole for Warners with a late April production date set to take place in South Africa.

If you are wondering why Sony dropped the pic, it apparently wasn't reflective of the material as much as it was a concern that Sony wouldn't have room for the feature in their packed schedule, which includes Spider-Man 3 on May 4, 2007. Other rumors point to the budget the film would require.
