Emily Blunt's Involvement in 'Iron Man 2' is in Question

Who will be the Black Widow?

Emily Blunt dealing with floating heads

Every single movie blog in the known universe is reporting on a story from The Playlist in which they are giving out second hand information as one of their readers — someone named "Script Grrrl" — tells them they they heard Jon Favreau on E! say "Fox exercised its [Gulliver's Travels] option on Emily Blunt, and that she definitely won't be in Iron Man 2." I enjoy and trust The Playlist as much as anyone else, but it is hard for me to just blindly accept this story, especially considering E! didn't report on it (which I can't believe they wouldn't have) and I didn't see Jon Favreau once during the many hours I was covering the Oscar broadcast last night. Of course, that doesn't mean he wasn't there, but E! had NASCAR-like trackers on the celebs showing up I would have thought I would have at least caught a glimpse from afar.

Perhaps the worst part of all of this is how everyone is now wondering if Favreau will now switch his attention to Eliza Dushku who has apparently been campaigning for the part telling the Howard Stern Show:

They're doing Iron Man 2, and I’m so perfect for the Black Widow character, that they just need to get into it. They need to understand… I just learned Russian because I had to play a Russian girl in "Dollhouse."

And the other actress's name is Scarlett Johansson, a story that began on Valentine's Day when Entertainment Weekly reported the news Johansson was in discussions to replace Blunt. Ugh, please let that not be true.

Personally I don't see Johansson or Dushku as comprable actresses when it comes to comparing to Blunt. I have no idea what this Black Widow character is all about, but I can't help but think if this movie was being made 7 years ago or so Famke Janssen would have been perfect.

meh, Famke Janssen is still perfect…she's till lookin good in Taken and she and Jon Favreau are good friends (he's written a role specifically for her in the past)

Famke does have the right age, more than Dushku.
Dushku is very good in action roles but the Widow character should be closer to Downey's character. I think we can all guess that the Widow will be a love interest and it'd look a bit odd to me seeing Robert and Eliza like that.
And unless they change the soviet background story of the widow, Eliza's a bit to young for that as well.

Quick Black Widow explanation for Brad:
Former soviet super spy, the kind with tight black clothes and amazing gadgets like grappling hook and energy weapons. No real superpowers but some enhanced physical abilities.
You get the idea.

@rattler76: Enhanced Physical Abilities? i am intrigued ;)

Dushku comes off as an ass in that excerpt. Famke Jansen is a goddess… i am hoping they have a Origins movie just for her… wouldnt that be something!

and you have a point there…Famke would better suit RDJ's age than Dushku

but if not famke then please let it be Blunt… Scarlett is overrated… as an actress and as a beauty both… she is another marilyn wannabe…. she would probably be best suited for a anna nicole smith biopic :P

@viral:
haha settle down viral, i'm talking olympic level athlete like abilities (or somewhat better) not Lara Croft like physical measurements, allthough if you open any comic book all the women look like they've been drawn by Hugh Heffner.

Gotta be honest here, I'm not excited about any of these choices. I liked Emily Blunt in Prada, but as a sexy, Russian, femme fatale? Maybe not. What does everyone think about Sienna Miller?
