Elijah Wood is Iggy Pop
The long rumored biopic is confirmed
Way back in August 2005 I interviewed Elijah Wood for Everything is Illuminated and asked what he might have on the horizon. In answering the question one thing he said was, "There may be a music biography coming up, something that scares the shit out of me. It's someone I am extremely passionate about, and yeah… That's coming up, but that's way in the future." Well folks, the future is now as Variety finally confirms the rumors that have been spilling around forever, that Elijah Wood will indeed star as Iggy Pop in The Passenger, a biopic of the legendary rocker.
The film will follow Pop's early years with his band the Stooges and will be directed by Nick Gomez ("Drowning Mona") from a script by Eric Schmid.
Filming is expected to begin in the next six months with a midsummer 2008 release in mind.
As for Pop's involvement he will not be in the film even though he has given it his blessing.
