Editors, Cinematographers and Audio Society All Love 'Slumdog Millionaire'

A brief award announcement...

Kris Tapley at In Contention has the winners of the 2009 ACE Eddie Awards for us letting us know that Slumdog Millionaire continues its streak with a win in the Dramatic category, WALL•E in the Comedy/Musical category and Man on Wire wins in the Documentary category.

Next we have another Slumdog win as the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) awarded it for best sound mixing beating out my personal favorite, WALL•E, as well as The Dark Knight, Iron Man and Quantum of Solace.

Finally, Awards Daily brings us word Slumdog Millionaire pulled off the triple play on Sunday with a win from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) giving Anthony Dod Mantle was awarded for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography in Theatrical Releases.

Is this a sign of things to come? Is it possible Slumdog could sweep all nine categories its nominated in?

I hope not. I know Slumdog was a great movie, but it was such a feel-good movie. I really hope that the look of the new Academy isn't align with what's popular. I miss the old days when films that showed a mastery of the medium were awarded, not just crowd pleasers. I did enjoy Slumdog immensely, but I don't think it deserves to win at all.

I think "Milk" and "Benjamin Button" should be the top two films battling it out for the win.

Slumdog was great, but sound-wise, I don't think it was the standard for the year. That belongs to Wall-E with TDK a close second imho. I still believe that at least one of the Oscar sound awards will go to Wall-E (though It won't be a suprise if it wins both), and the other to TDK. It will be a shame if Ben Burtt's work in Wall-E goes winless. Unfortunately, what could happen is even if Wall-E or TDK comes out on top with the tech voters, that can be overcome by the vote of the other branches considerint everyone gets to vote on pretty much all categories in the final ballots(particularly the Actors branch). Hopefully many voters don't just go all Slumdog and pencil it in on every category without keeping to mind what the specific category entails.

PLs i just hope Benjamin Button doesnt make an upset at the oscars….it has a great storyline….but if u just take out the curious case out of Benjamin Button then the movie is nothing….i would agree that MILK is a very good movie and Reader is also a great one…but if you ask the two movies that can beat the hell out of each other i would say Slumdog vs MILK…
