Eastwood's 'Gran Torino' May Actually be 'Dirty Harry 6'?

This is an interesting rumor to say the least

Perhaps the upcoming box set release of the Dirty Harry Collection on DVD and Blu-ray (streets June 13th) isn't just a matter of Warner Bros. releasing a collection of classic Clint Eastwood films. Perhaps it is an attempt to get everyone prepped and ready, up-to-date and in-the-know, as rumors hit the Net that the recently announced film Gran Torino is in fact the sixth film in the Dirty Harry franchise.

The news comes via a tipster at Ain't It Cool News, which certainly means this could be entirely fake, but here is how the correspondence went:

Nobody seems to know – not even the trades – what Clint Eastwood’s new movie, Gran Torino, is…. So I’ll tell you.

I recently advertised my 1974 ford grand torino classic original for sale in the local here, and within 24 hours had someone from Village Roadshow Pictures interested in having a look at it. He came. He wasn’t interested for numerous reasons (probably the modifications). He told me they were looking for the right car for a new Clint Eastwood movie.

He said it was a thriller about a killer that drives a certain torino. His 1972 Ford Gran Torino is the only thing the police have on him. A retired police lieutenant, one Harry Callahan, makes it his mission to track down the culprit when two young police officers, one Callahan’s grandson, are shot and killed by the guy.

As well thought out as it all is, I actually find it a little hard to believe, primarily because it seems weird that someone would go out and look at a car and say, "Hey, I'm from Village Roadshow. Nah, car doesn't work for me, but we are looking for a 1972 Ford Gran Torino to use in a new movie featuring Harry Callahan." It just all sounds too easy for me, especially since it seems they are trying to keep the production quiet. It's not as if Harry Callahan is an unfamiliar name.

Who knows, Clint could be returning to a character he last played in 1988 with The Dead Pool. At the age of 77 (gonna be 78 at the end of May) I am sure he can still walk around and shoot people and ask them if they "feel lucky".

Eastwood is set to star in and direct Gran Torino, and if it does turn out to be a Dirty Harry film it will be the second of the "six" he would have directed after he helmed 1983's Sudden Impact.
