The Dark Knight made $24,290 on Thursday, November 6. Its weekend receipts are still not known, but it was only shown on 125 here in the States so I can’t assume it is going to be a huge number. However, $992,811,316 is a HUGE number and that is The Dark Knight’s current foreign tally made up of $528,315,892 domestically and $464,495,424 from foreign markets. The film may still be $72,472,296 shy of Titanic’s #1 spot at the top of the all-time box office, but to be less than $8 million away from $1 billion isn’t a bad consolation prize.

In other Batman related news Hüseyin Kalkan, the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party mayor of the southeastern city of Batman, is set to sue Christopher Nolan and not Batman creator DC Comics saying, "The royalty of the name ‘Batman’ belongs to us … There is only one Batman in the world. The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."

...I think this may possibly be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.

TDK will easily break the billion dollar mark IF they re-release it to IMAX screens in January (as has been rumored somewhere), when Oscar nominations come out. IMAX theaters are currently tied up with Madagascar 2 and will have The Day The Earth Stood Still in December, but by mid-January, those big screens will need something to fill the seats. Blu-Ray may look awesome, but nothing at home can come close to IMAX. Just my $0.02
