Donkey Kong Doc Getting Adapted

They going to treat this as real or silly?

I was never a huge “Donkey Kong” guy, but that is only because when I was young my mom wouldn’t let me have a videogame system until she cracked and got me a Sega Genesis for Christmas one year and by then games were not about crazy gorillas throwing barrels, instead it was about a football and the crazy gorilla on the cover (John Madden if you don’t know).

Anyway, this story is about the “Donkey Kong” documentary you may or probably didn’t hear of called The King of Kong which will hit theaters this August. The film tells the story of rivaling “Kong” high score fanatics as they duel it out for the Guinness World Record for high score on the game. The story is a little more detailed and you can click here for the rest of it, but this article takes it a step further.

New Line Cinema seems to be quite taken with the little story and is ready to give it a feature film adapation and has assigned Michael Bacall scripting duties and has given the doc’s director Seth Gordon the duties of scripting the adaptation as well.

I can see how the documentary may be entertaining and it just happens to be showing here at the Seattle Film Festival and I may now have to try and give it a peek, but I gotta wonder are they going to take this story seriously or joke it up a bit and bring in some nut to star in it? I would assume they would go at least a slightly different direction than the doc, but who really knows.
