Unfortunately, I think the book is good in a way that can't be recreated visually. There are stories that do better visually packing an emotional punch (Schindler's List) than the book but I don't see how this could be one of them. The strength of this story IS the prose, not the visuals... so what's left to show?

I'm shocked they are even trying to adapt it.

I lost interest in this movie when they lost interest in Ryan Gosling. Don't get me wrong Peter Jackson is a brilliant filmmaker but I wouldn't go out of my way to see the Lovely Bones.

The strange thing is that Paramount just sent me the email today (well yesterday now). I am just glad I read this book before the movie. It's too bad you didn't like it BeautifulM, the ending is what had me loving it, but I also was never sure it could be made into a movie, the Heaven aspect really can't be achieved in film... at least I don't think. It's one of those things that works in your brain because the white fluffy clouds don't seem as obscure when they are in your imagination, but seeing it on screen may be really weird and almost silly.

Haven't read the book. However, this film will sure test P.J's drama directing skills after making epics like the LOTR trilogy and King Kong (which I loved!).

I read this on another blog and people were saying that this is old news that is just getting out now and they are done filming. So, IDK.

To be honest, I really didn't like the book, I just couldn't stand Susie's sister ( forgot her name) she was more like the main character than Susie. I mean it started off good, but when most of it shifted towards her sister I really didn't like it. However, I do agree that Wahlberg and Weisz (SP?) are not right and the grandmother shouldn't be the comic relief.Unless they are going for a dramedy, which this clearly isn't.
