Diesel’s Down for ‘XXX: The Return of Xander Cage’

Nope, it's not a joke...

Okay, so you all bitched and moaned about Ice Cube in xXx: State of the Union so it seems Sony heard your cries and combined with Vin Diesel’s flailing career and the ineptitude of Rob Cohen to make a quality film, the duo are returning to the film franchise they started back in 2002. However, before I give you all the details let me quote a portion of my review of the Uncensored, Unrated Director’s Cut of xXx:

With the upcoming release of XXX: State of the Union it was obviously a perfect time to release a special edition of XXX, and if you were wondering why the sequel won’t be featuring Vin Diesel all your questions will be answered on disc two in the short titled “The Final Chapter: The Death of Xander.” Inside of this mini film in which Khristian Lupo stars as Xander, whose face isn’t shown, just his bald head and in more ways than you can imagine as Xander meets his ultimate demise ending any chance for Xander’s return.

Damn, I guess I was VERY wrong with that last statement eh? Take into consideration the proposed title of the third film, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. Hmmmmm, how exactly does producer Joe Roth intend to work this out and manage to bring back Diesel to star? There is no question about Rob Cohen, he’s not dead, just his career. However, both have agreed to the sequel and are waiting for Columbia to come aboard. Word is if they don’t other studios are interested.

For those not familiar, in the first xXx feature Diesel played Xander Cage, an extreme sports enthusiast who gets drafted by the government for a dangerous mission. Personally I didn’t think the first film was that bad and mildly enjoyed the second one in theaters, which was obviously a minority opinion. I couldn’t care less about a third film, make it or don’t, but it certainly is a sign that Diesel’s career, which seemed to be incredibly promising has pretty much hit the skids.
