DEBUNKED: George Takei Back for New ‘Star Trek’

Will he be an older Sulu?

George Takei

UPDATE: Geez, only mere minutes after posting this article I learn that TrekMovie has already debunked the information… Sorry Takei fans, old Sulu ain’t gon’ be around… Original article follows.

Trek Web has revealed news that George Takei has been cast in the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek, which is sure to be enough to make Bill Shatner’s toupee fly right off considering Takei and The Shat never seemed to get along. Meanwhile Shatner is lobbying to get himself on the movie in every interview he does (a move I am half assuming is just placating to the interviewers as I wouldn’t be surprised if he already has been cast).

The TrekWeb article points out a quote from Sci Fi Pulse where it says, “It’s TRUE. Takei is in the new movie and it will be a brief Flash Foreword scene between him and Spock.” See, now why can’t they do one of these with Kirk? I firmly believe Shatner is going to be in this movie.

There is no specific word on whether or not Takei will be playing Sulu, but you can only assume that is the case.

Star Trek is currently filming for a Christmas 2008 release.
