Death to Proove Longer at Cannes Film Festival

Quentin Headed To Cannes ... Again

According to Variety it looks like Quentin Tarantino is once again headed to Cannes, this time with a longer cut of Death Proof. Unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the last few months, you’re probably aware that Death Proof is the second feature in the Grindhouse double-header that Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are set to unleash April 6th.

Last week Brad reported that the final cut of Grindhouse runs for a fat 3 hours and 5 minutes, 87 of which is dedicated to Tarantino’s film (the rest, I assume, is comprised of Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and a slew of fake trailers directed by the likes of Eli Roth (Hostel).

There’s no official word on how much longer Tarantino’s new cut will be but Roth suggested QT could at least make a two-hour version:

“He could do a two-hour version of it if he wanted,” said Eli Roth. “Monday was the first time he saw it with an audience, and it played really well, so I honestly don’t know how Quentin is going to feel.”

I would imagine Tarantino is salivating at the thought of making a longer cut, though. This is the guy that refused to trim down Kill Bill to the point that they released two different volumes (and God love him for it because they friggin’ rocked). The article also reports there is a chance that the longer cut of Death Proof and Rodriguez’s Planet Terror could be entered for official competition at Cannes. I can see it now … Grindhouse, featuring 2007’s Palm d’Or winner … Death Proof!

The real question I have is when Tarantino is going to give us that longer, bloodier cut of Kill Bill we were promised many moons ago.
