David Fincher's Latest Nike Commercial

Peterson's reptilian Pro Combat...

Last October I posted Michael Mann's Nike commercial from 2007 and David Fincher's 2008 edition (watch both here), and now Kris Tapley at In Contention informs me the new Adrian Peterson commercial I saw last night for Nike's Pro Combat was directed by David Fincher.

This is by no means movie news, but the two commercials were well received last year and Fincher's latest one isn't all bad although it doesn't compare to his 2008 spot or Mann's 2007.

Great commercial. Peterson is so into the game his body mimics the contours and grooves of a football. Could've had better music to it though. Last year Fincher had Ennio Morricone's "Ecstacy of Gold" as a soundtrack, which made for a better commercial.

His body is mimicking the contours of a football? Nobody in my household really got that. It was a very theatrical looking commercial that made very little sense to us. But whatever… I've never bought shoes based on an ad anyway, so I'm not the target audience.

@AJ: Ya, you know, a football. How it is grooved so it gives us grip. That's what his body is in the end…not a reptile… Am I the only 1 who plays sports here?

@Anonymous' Friend: Actually his body is mimicking the padded outerwear, which is the reason for the ad, not shoes. His body reflects the pads, not a football.

@Brad Brevet: I was not familiar with the outerwear look, but obviously it mimics the look and feel of a football…which is what I was getting at.

@Anonymous' Friend:

Ummm, no. His skin at the end doesn't look like a football, not even close, footballs have small dimples. Nor is it supposed to, I think you are missing the whole point of the commercial. It's an ad for the Nike outwear, so his skin looks the outwear at the end.

Decent commercial, but I liked last year's commercial much better.

Brad is right it's his padding. I played football and it looks just like the hip and knee pads not the football

@The Big L: @Josh: Alright let's settle this once and for all: http://imagineathletes.com/images/american-football-close-up.jpg

If that doesn't look like his skin, then I don't know what does…
